PE and Outdoor Learning at Pine Green Academy
PE and Outdoor Learning at Pine Green Academy provides opportunities for students to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. This enables individuals to make informed choices about participation in physical activities throughout their lives whilst developing self-confidence, resilience and self-esteem.
The aims of PE and Outdoor Learning are:
- Take part in outdoor and adventurous activities, encouraging teamwork, building on trust and developing skills to problem solve and apply resilience when challenged
- Map read, ride a bike, climb a climbing wall, paddleboard
- Be safe around water, fire and the outside environment
- Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- Are physically active for sustained periods of time
- Engage in completive sports and activities
- Lead heathy, active lives
- To enable students to develop and explore physical skills with increasing control and co-ordination.
- To encourage students to work as a team in a range of group situations improving their co-operation skills and sensitivity towards others with differing abilities. To develop the way students, perform skills and apply rules and conventions to different activities.
- To increase students’ ability to use what they have learnt to improve the quality and control of their performance.
- To teach students to recognise and describe how their bodies feel during exercise.
- To develop student enjoyment and motivation towards physical activity and to derive satisfaction and achievement.
- To engage in competitive sports and activities that build character, self- confidence and embed values such as fairness and respect.
- To develop an understanding of how to succeed in a range of physical activities and how to evaluate and further develop their own success.
- To provide opportunities for physical and sensory EHCP desired outcomes to be worked towards allowing students to improve muscle tone, co-ordination, fine and gross motor skills.

The main aims of KS3 PE are to learn and develop skills, techniques and performance; to develop an understanding of a healthy lifestyle; to develop the ability to select and apply skills, tactics and compositional ideas; to develop and improve performance; and to develop an improved understanding of health and safety in a range of activities. Throughout each of the activities covered individualised EHCP desired outcomes will be targeted. Communication and interaction will be demonstrated through team work and co-operation; mental capacity will be developed through learning rules, thinking skills and ability to evaluate; SEMH will be targeted through boosting self-confidence and self-esteem and physical and sensory development will be through working on improving physical fitness, agility, co-ordination and control.
The main aims of KS4 PE are to analyse, evaluate and improve performance applying a good understanding of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Students will have the opportunity to participate within a range of sports and activities and ways in which to develop these skills further within the community. Sports leadership is promoted with sports champions leading on a sport or activity of interest. Through the gym lessons and Btec sport opportunities students gain the knowledge of lifelong learning and career pathways of: sports coach, gym instructor, personal trainer, PE teacher, physiotherapist and many more.
- Autumn term - Net and Wall sports: badminton, squash, table tennis, tennis, teamwork, survival skills
- Spring term - team sports: dodgeball, hockey, rugby, football, tool work outdoors and climbing
- Summer term - striking and fielding: rounder’s cricket, softball and athletics, mountain biking and water sports
Year 7 – fire safety, cooking; drinks-marshmallows, class project to make or create something within the space, nature walks and bike rides offsite-basic introduction to map reading-maintaining a set area-climbing-watersport.
Year 8 – fire safety leadership skills lighting a fire, cooking; drinks-marshmallows-noodles-soup, class project to make or create something within the space, nature walks and bike rides offsite-more advanced map reading-plant to plate project-maintaining a set area-climbing-watersports.
Year 9 – fire safety leadership skills lighting and maintaining a fire, cooking; drinks-marshmallows-noodles-soup-bacon, sausage sandwiches, class project to make or create something within the space, nature walks and bike rides offsite-advanced map reading-plant to plate project-maintaining a set area-climbing-watersports. Year 10/11 – DofE: Skill-Physical-Volunteering-Expedition training.
Key Stage 4 Specifics
